in many places in Taiwan
You will see the "Ancient Taste" sign hanging on the door of the restaurant
So what is old fashioned?
It is a word used by Taiwanese to describe the old taste
Probably "the taste of nostalgia"
Tainan is such a city
Taiwan Travel Notes
Tainan is the oldest city in Taiwan
In this city, you can see traditional and profound food and life in Taiwan. Many mainland tourists who come to Taiwan usually choose the eastern route, such as Kenting, Hualien and so on.
This is not the first time for me to go to Taiwan. I think what attracts me most in Taiwan is the friendly attitude and comfortable pace of life. I want to experience the local life like a local, so when I see the introduction of Tainan is "the most popular "Taiwanese college students like" tourist city, of course I don't know if it is true, but I immediately decided to go to this city with few mainland tourists.
Tainan trip - OK
In fact, the urban area of Tainan is really small, and you can walk wherever you want.
Of course, if you have a motorcycle driver's license, you can also consider renting a motorcycle. It should be quite comfortable to shuttle in the streets and alleys. It's a pity that the two of us can't even ride a bicycle well.
Tainan trip - live
For accommodation, it is recommended to live near Tainan Station.
The transportation is convenient, the city center of the old city, basically the places you want to go in the city are all around the station. The B&B we booked is just opposite the station. The host is very nice and helped us plan all our itineraries. (The messy map is the plan she told us with pictures and texts)
Basically, everything that is not recommended in the guide is here. But we are lazy, we spend a lot of time wandering around, and we don’t know all about it. We feel that the landlord’s enthusiasm has been wasted.
Tainan trip - eat
I think that the blood of food is in the bones of Tainan people.
The landlord in Tainan told me: "When you come to Tainan, you don't need to find which one is more famous, because the famous ones have to queue up. Ah, let me tell you, when you are in Tainan, you can eat wherever you go. , Really, those of you look pretty good, if someone is eating you and you want to eat it, just go in and eat it."
Because of the words of the landlord, we really ate all the way. Danzi noodles, coffin board, eel pasta, raw beef soup, seafood porridge... I can't count how much I ate.
Tainan's beef soup culture is really unique, with abnormal business hours, no closing time and only "until sold out". Well, then I recommend a beef soup that I accidentally ate. In fact, I found out that it was the famous "Beard Zhong Beef Soup" when I left after eating.

Minced pork rice in Tainan
Taiwanese really love minced meat rice
Minced meat rice is very fragrant. Taiwanese really love minced meat rice. Almost every place to eat has it. The beef soup should be a boiled beef bone soup. Put the raw beef in it directly and then serve it. It was still a little bright red when it was first served, but it was quickly cooked by the soup.
The beef is very tender and sweet, the color is transparent but the soup base is very rich in taste, no seasoning is added to enhance the taste, but it is very original beef flavor. Stir-fried beef with kale is similar to Chaoshan's recipe and taste. Sure enough, except for the similar language, the food is also very similar, and they are all delicious.
Speaking of Taiwanese food, everyone will think of night markets full of beautiful things.
Interestingly, the night markets in Tainan operate in shifts, that is, Mondays are public holidays, Wednesdays and Saturdays are Wusheng Night Markets, Tuesdays and Fridays are Xiaobei Night Markets, and Thursdays and weekends are the most famous Huayuan Night Markets. Friends who want to go should be optimistic about the day, don't miss it.
But this time I was willful and did not go to the night markets in Tainan. To be honest, the food in the night markets in many cities in Taiwan is actually similar. The food museum in Tainan, the food in the streets and alleys can’t be eaten, so this kind of food in Taiwan You don’t need to go to the things you can eat in other cities. Besides, one stomach is not enough to hold so much.

Things to do in Tainan
After finally talking about food, let’s talk about some tourist attractions.
Some scenic spots in Tainan are quite far from the urban area. The taxis there can choose to charter a car service, and take you around check-in points in the suburbs in a day. For example, the famous Anping Old Street, Anping Castle and Anping Tree House are all there, and there are many specialty shops in Tainan.
The predecessor of Anping Castle was the building when the Netherlands invaded Taiwan. The watchtower on the castle was a lighthouse built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. The long-standing historical buildings have witnessed the development of the city of Tainan from ancient times to the present. There are still a lot of sightseeing places over there. It takes about half a day to visit Anping Castle. This time I didn’t go there because of the itinerary. If you are interested, you can go and see it.
If you don’t want to travel so far, you can walk Shennong Street and Hai’an Road in downtown Tainan. I think this is the most Tainan-style place.
Although this small street with a history of 300 years is not long, the old-fashioned houses, creative embellishments, and the blend of old and new have a lonely and interesting atmosphere, and every step has a sense of age and art.
Especially after nightfall, it is lively and romantic, and it is like two worlds with the tranquility and art of the day. Walking here, I think this is probably the life atmosphere of the local people I want.
If Tainan must recommend a scenic spot, I think it should be the Chimei Museum. The Chimei Museum is Mr. Xu Wenlong's private museum. It displays cultural relics, musical instruments, Western paintings, sculptures, weapons, and biological specimens from various countries and periods. I really understand what it means to " linger and forget to return " .
Tickets of 200 NT dollars are less than 50 RMB, and the exhibition hall can not be visited in 2 hours. It is really worth the money, isn't it!
However, it should be noted that you are not allowed to take pictures in the internal exhibition hall, and remember to turn your mobile phone and other equipment into silent mode, and there is a timeline for the bus to the Chimei Museum, which runs every 30-50 minutes, so you can check the departure time first. After the end, you can go to the station and take a bus back to the city according to the time, otherwise you will have to wait for a long time if you miss a bus.
In short, Tainan is an old but lively city, and the locals are also very friendly and enthusiastic. Sometimes you put aside the strategy to experience a city and enjoy the local life, and you will find that this city will have your own feelings. unique taste.
